Unlike theories plucked from textbooks written by those who have never faced the pressure of competition, my approach to Mind Strength Coaching is grounded in experience. I have been the man in the arena, feeling the heat of competition firsthand. These Mind Strength skills and principles are not just abstract ideas; they are battle-tested strategies that I’ve used throughout my playing and coaching career.
Before I discovered Mind Strength training, I believed that confidence was something you were either born with or not—and I felt I had drawn the short straw. My pre-performance nerves were so overwhelming that I regularly threw up before games. I was trapped in what I call the “mediocrity loop,” an inconsistent performance cycle where I oscillated between decent and poor performances. It felt like there was no way out.
The Turning Point
Everything changed when I met Dr. Craig Manning, a renowned mental performance coach. Under his guidance, I began my journey into Mind Strength training. Through consistent work with Dr. Manning and my own personal research, I started to break free from the mediocrity loop. Breakthrough after breakthrough followed, and I went from being 5th on the depth chart as a walk-on at Washington State to achieving incredible milestones:
- Earned a scholarship.
- Became the All-Time Pac-12 Passing Leader in yards and touchdowns.
- Became Washington State’s All-Time Wins Leader with 27 victories.
- Won the Burlsworth Trophy, awarded to the nation’s top player who began their career as a walk-on.
- Got drafted in the NFL.
These achievements weren’t due to luck or natural talent—they were the direct result of training my mind and applying Mind Strength principles & skills consistently.
Lessons from the NFL
My journey didn’t end there. After college, I played for three teams over two years in the NFL. While it was an incredible experience, I only had a "cup of coffee" in the league rather than a thriving career. The #1 reason? I stopped consistently applying the Mind Strength skills and principles that had propelled me to success. This hard-learned lesson is one of the reasons I’m so passionate about coaching others. I know what it’s like to reach the pinnacle and to fall short and allow the negative side effects of success to kick in.
